Adam Jones qualified from the Middlesex Hospital Medical School with its highest undergraduate award, the Broderip Scholarship.
His initial surgical training was at Whipps Cross then Chase Farm Hospital, followed by his Specialist Registrar rotation in Urology in the Oxford region.
During this time Adam was awarded a prestigious one year Hunterian Professorship for his research into the blood supply to bladder cancers and disruption mechanisms.
He has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery for benign and malignant urology conditions as well as adding to the existing service for urological cancer.
He has also taught as a faculty member for ERUS (European Robotic Urology Symposium) training courses.
Adam has pioneered robotic surgery in Reading, both clinically, performing over 200 radical prostatectomies and also by leading the ‘Robbie the Robot Appeal’. This appeal which raises funds to support the Da Vinci robot has recently passed the £1M mark. Adam also works on the European Robotic Urology Symposium helping to train robotic surgeons of the future.
In recognition of his clinical and fundraising robotic work Adam was awarded the Pride of Reading – Healthcare Worker of the Year 2012 Award.
In conjunction with Paul Rogers (oncologist) and Peter Malone Adam has helped to build up the prostate brachytherapy service in Reading to be one of the busiest ‘real time’ centres in Europe with over 500 patients treated.
Adam says; “Working in a unit with expertise in both brachytherapy and robotic surgery is uncommon in the UK and means our patients really do get a genuine choice of treatments for their prostate problems.
Adam Jones joined Reading Urology in 2003 after being appointed to the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in 2002.

"Consultant Urologist Adam Jones won the Health Worker of the Year category for leading the Robbie the Robot fundraising efforts. Adam has climbed mountains – literally – run half marathons and staged quiz nights for the Robbie appeal. Aside from helping raise many tens of thousands of pounds, Adam and his team have brought national fame to the Trust and our pioneering work in robotic surgery."
